Music lovers in West Fife will be the very first to hear a new piece by acclaimed composer Helen Leach. Leach has written As The Feet Of A Deer specially for long-established chamber music group Trio Ecossaise, who will perform it at their upcoming Dunfermline concert on 19 January with the composer herself in attendance.
Born in Hawick, Helen was principal clarinet with the Scottish Youth Orchestra and studied at the Royal Northern College of Music. She has directed the music for live BBC broadcasts, including her own compositions and arrangements on Radio 4. Her Prelude for a Royal Swan was featured on Radio 3 on the anniversary of the accession to the throne of the late Queen Elizabeth II,and she has recently conducted and arranged music for BBC Songs of Praise in Canongate Kirk, Edinburgh. Trio Ecossaise - Jennifer Brown (clarinet), Harriet Davidson (cello) and Claire Haslin (piano) - have worked together for over fifteen years. As well as their trio work, they all have busy freelance careers. Their community work includes performing in hospitals for dementia patients and newborn infants, and delivering schools workshops and university masterclasses.
Recently the trio has focused on the work of female composers. The Dunfermline concert will include works by Nadia Boulanger and Germaine Tailleferre, as well as Mozart and Fauré.
The concert takes place at 4pm on Sunday 19 January in Viewfield Baptist Church, East Port Dunfermline. For tickets and further information, go to https://dunfermlinemusic.org/
